--Introduction--
Use it, leave it. The Rainbow BioWrap 65 Biodegradable Hedge Guard offers environmentally responsible protection for young trees, whips and hedging plants, naturally biodegrading at the end of its useful life without leaving harmful microplastic residues.
Designed specifically for larger whips, broader-stemmed young trees and vigorous hedging plants, the Rainbow BioWrap 65 combines effective plant protection with long-term environmental sustainability, offering an eco-friendly alternative to conventional plastic spiral guards.
Available in 60cm and 75cm heights, both with a generous 50–65mm internal diameter, this flexible wrap-style guard provides additional growing space for plants with thicker stems, encouraging healthy establishment while protecting against rabbits, hares and other browsing pests.
Manufactured from 100% plant-based biodegradable polymers, the BioWrap 65 is designed to naturally break down into water, carbon dioxide and biomass over approximately 3–5 years, depending on climatic conditions and planting location. This eliminates the need for costly collection and disposal after use, saving time, labour and associated maintenance costs.
The flexible spiral wrap design allows the guard to expand as the plant grows, reducing the risk of stem restriction while maintaining protection throughout the crucial early stages of establishment.
Its spiral construction encourages natural airflow and light transmission, supporting healthy growth and helping to prevent overheating and moisture build-up.
Quick and straightforward to install, the BioWrap 65 can be wrapped around a young stem and supporting bamboo cane or small stake without the need for additional tools or fixings.
Ideal for hedgerow creation, woodland regeneration, rewilding projects and biodiversity schemes, the Rainbow BioWrap 65 Biodegradable Hedge Guard provides a practical fit-and-forget solution for sustainable plant protection.

--Features & Benefits--
Plant Welfare
Animal protection
Protects young trees, whips and hedging plants from browsing animals, particularly rabbits and hares, helping to improve planting success and reduce losses during establishment.
Light transmission
The spiral wrap design allows natural light to reach developing stems and foliage, supporting healthy photosynthesis and early-stage growth.
Improved ventilation
The open spiral construction promotes natural airflow around the stem, helping to reduce moisture build-up and overheating while supporting healthy plant development.
Reduced stem restriction
The flexible 50–65mm internal diameter provides additional growing space for thicker-stemmed plants, helping to minimise the risk of stem girdling as the plant develops.
Flexible spiral design
The wrap-style construction allows the guard to fit around young stems while accommodating growth, making it particularly suitable for vigorous whips and larger hedging plants.
Natural expansion
Unlike rigid protective tubes, the flexible spiral structure can gradually expand as the plant grows, providing continued protection without unnecessarily restricting normal stem development.

--Range Choices--
Height
The Rainbow BioWrap 65 Biodegradable Hedge Guard is available in two heights: 60cm and 75cm.
Both sizes feature the same 50–65mm internal diameter, providing additional growing space for broader-stemmed whips and vigorous young plants.
The appropriate height will depend on the species being planted, the level of browsing pressure and the conditions of the planting site.
60cm Rainbow BioWrap 65
The 60cm guard is ideal for hedgerow establishment, woodland regeneration and general countryside planting where young trees and hedging plants require protection against rabbits and browsing damage.
Its extended coverage compared with shorter spiral guards makes it particularly suitable for taller whips and sites where additional lower-stem protection is beneficial.
-
Height: 60cm
-
Internal diameter: 50–65mm
-
Recommended use: Larger whips, young trees, hedgerow establishment and general countryside planting
-
Recommended support: Bamboo cane or small stake
75cm Rainbow BioWrap 65
The 75cm guard is the taller option, providing additional protective coverage for longer whips and vigorous young trees.
It is particularly useful for high-browse-pressure locations, exposed rural sites and woodland or hedgerow restoration projects where a greater height of protection is required.

--Installation--
Plant
Planting bare root or cell grown whips and young trees is a straightforward task. However, do not attempt to plant if the ground is frozen or waterlogged.
Select a suitable planting position, allowing for the plant's future height and spread at maturity. Ensure there is sufficient space for the plant to establish naturally.
Bare rooted or cell grown plants can be planted in three steps:
-
Begin by inserting the blade of a spade into the ground. Push the spade handle away from you and then bring it back towards you. Once you remove the spade, you will have created a cavity or 'notch' in the ground.
-
For bare root plants – place the roots within the cavity, ensuring they are pointing downwards and are not folded or compressed. Gently shake the plant to help the roots settle into position.
For cell grown plants – place the root plug gently into the ground, following the recommended planting depth for the species. Ensure the roots are properly covered and protected from drying out.
-
Fill the cavity with soil, gently firming around the plant to remove air pockets. Water thoroughly after planting where practical.
You are now ready to install your support and protection.
Support
-
After planting, position a bamboo cane or small supporting stake close to the base of the plant, taking care to avoid damaging the roots.
-
Push the bamboo cane securely into the ground, ensuring it is sufficiently stable to support the BioWrap 65 guard throughout its expected lifespan.
-
Ensure the supporting cane is positioned vertically and does not place unnecessary pressure on the young stem.
-
Check that the support is secure before fitting the biodegradable hedge guard.
-
For taller plants requiring the 75cm BioWrap 65, ensure the bamboo cane or supporting stake is long enough to provide adequate support for the full height of the guard.
Protect
-
Select the appropriate 60cm or 75cm Rainbow BioWrap 65 Biodegradable Hedge Guard according to the height of the plant and the browsing pressure on site.
-
Carefully position the spiral guard around the young tree or hedging plant, starting at the base of the stem.
-
Gently wrap the flexible guard around the plant and supporting bamboo cane, ensuring the stem is protected without damaging any developing shoots or branches.
-
Allow the 50–65mm internal diameter to provide sufficient room around the stem, ensuring the spiral guard is not wrapped too tightly and can expand naturally as the plant grows.
-
Position the lower section of the guard at ground level to help prevent browsing animals from accessing the base of the plant.
-
Ensure the upper opening remains unobstructed, allowing natural airflow, light penetration and continued growth.
-
Check that the supporting bamboo cane or stake is secure and that the guard remains correctly positioned around the plant.
-
Periodically inspect the guard during the establishment period to ensure the plant is growing freely and that the spiral wrap is not restricting developing stems or branches. Adjust the guard if necessary.
-
No routine removal required – the Rainbow BioWrap 65 Biodegradable Hedge Guard is designed to remain in place and naturally biodegrade at the end of its useful life, reducing the need for collection and disposal.
Supporting bamboo canes and stakes are sold separately.
