The Forestry Minister Thérèse Coffey MP has confirmed that a more-than-welcome boost for the timber and forestry sectors will be forthcoming in 2018. The window for application for grants for landowners to plant trees to prevent flooding and encourage wildlife will open in January 2018. There will be guidance documents and application forms available in September.

A range of grants will be available, with farmers, foresters and land managers encouraged to apply for up to £6,800 per hectare to plant, weed and protect trees.
The fund, part of the Countryside Stewardship scheme, will help plant more than 3 million trees, creating 1,900 hectares of additional woodland and is a bold step in achieving the Government's ambition of planting 11 million trees in the countryside.
