Gary Rogers, Managing Director, "We are very proud to have been Plant Healthy certified since August 2022. The Plant Healthy scheme is one of the strictest annual audits for our sector and our certification is a recognition of the importance we place on plant biosecurity here at British Hardwood Tree Nursery. It means customers can buy with confidence from us, safe in the knowledge that we are doing everything in our power to protect the environment from pests and diseases".
What is the Plant Healthy scheme?
The Plant Healthy scheme aims to help people and businesses grow and supply healthy plants, because it is recognised that the most common way for pests to be introduced into a new area is by the movement of live plants.
To ensure high standards are maintained, the scheme is based around the 'Plant Health Management Standard'. This is a document that has been developed by industry, with input from Government and third sector organisations. It sets out strict requirements for plant health management and is the technical document that the Plant Healthy Certification Scheme and annual audits are based upon.

The Scheme’s Rules allows audits to be conducted within a four-month audit window either side of the certificate end date. This ensures that sites can be assessed at different times during the year so that different stages of the production cycle can be viewed (where deemed appropriate). Where certified members have certificate end dates that have expired, they have simply been scheduled to have an audit at a later date in the calendar year than their original certification date.
