Easywraps are a cost effective and more rigid alternative to spirals, delivering herbicide and rabbit protection.

Consisting of a twin wall with a vertical split, creating a natural overlap, the Easywraps are made of recyclable polypropylene (not PVC).

Delivered in nests of two wraps – 50mm (expanding to 65mm) and 65mm (expanding to 80mm), they are both easy to move around a planting scheme and easy to install.

Easywraps are best suited to slender plants or whips, and can be successfully used for hedging and more open planting applications.

They retain their shape and expand as the plant grows.  At the end of their useful life (typically 3 to 5 years) their design means they can easily be removed for recycling.

The microclimate they create is conducive to better growth.  This, combined with the rabbit and hare protection they offer (depending on the height chosen), means they can help deliver better survival rates.

Benefits

  • Helps protects from voles, rabbits and hares (depending on height chosen).
  • Protects from herbicide spray.
  • Easy installation and removal.
  • Can be recycled.

Installation (view the installation tab above for a more comprehensive installation guide)

  • Plant your whip.
  • Push a cane into the ground next to the whip.
  • Separate an Easywrap from the nest of 2.
  • Slot the Easywrap over both the plant and the cane, ensuring the wrap touches the ground.
  • Note: On exceptionally windy sites we recommend using a Tubex Ecostart with a square sawn stake, rather than the Easywraps.
  • Plan for removal and recycling at end of life once the plant is established. More information on recycling is available here.

Diameter types

Easywraps are nested in 2’s (one inside the other), to save space and time when moving plant protection around a site.

Within one nest of two wraps you will find a 50mm diameter and a 65mm diameter wrap.

These narrow diameters make them most suitable for young, slender plants.

Plant

Planting bare root or cell grown plants is a straightforward task, however, do not attempt to plant if the ground is frozen or waterlogged. Find a suitable position for your plants, bearing in mind future growth and potential height and spread at maturity.

Bare rooted or cell grown plants can be ‘notch’ planted in 3 steps:

Installation

1. Begin by inserting the blade of a spade into the ground. Push the spade handle away from you and then bring it back towards you. Once you remove the spade, you will see that you have created a cavity or ‘notch’ in the ground.

2. For bare root - place the plant roots within the cavity and shake to ensure that all of the roots are in the cavity and pointing downwards.
For cell grown – place the cell gently into the ground. Ensure the top of the plug (the soil surrounding the roots) is positioned at 2 to 4cm below the surface to avoid drying out.

3. Fill the cavity with soil. Use your heel to firm the soil around the plant to remove any air pockets. Once planted, give them a good water if practical to do so.

You are now ready to install your support and protection.

Support

Support

1. After planting, position the cane on the windward side between 2cm to 5cm from the base of the plant if there are strong prevailing winds. This means the cane will hold the Easywrap up rather than the plant.

2. Push or hammer the cane into the ground with a stake driver or mallet (ideally knocking 1/3 of its height into the ground). Ensure it is vertical (particularly important on sloping ground). The top of the cane should be above the top rim of the Easywrap

Protect

1. Position the Easywrap over the tree and the cane, making sure not to damage any lateral branches.

2. Push the Easywrap into the ground 1cm to 2cm. This forms a safe herbicide barrier and deters vermin from burrowing under the shelter.

Installation

Plan for removal and recycling of shelters at end of life once the tree is established. More information on recycling is available here.
